Parent Guidance

Parent guidance involves working collaboratively with caregivers to help them with children that are struggling. Parents seek guidance for a number of reasons including their child/adolescent’s behavior at home and in school, emotional and psychological struggles, as well as to help their child navigate difficult life transitions and events (i.e. divorce, losses, moves). Approaches to working with parents involves understanding of the child’s development, relational patterns in the immediate family, as well as the family’s generational history. Deepening a parent’s/caregiver’s understanding of their emotional and life experiences facilitates a more expansive understanding of their children and their relationships with their children. With these understandings parents develop tools such as increased capacity for empathy, communication, and consistency in limit setting.
